Ogier began the year as a part-time Toyota driver, but his impressive early results convinced him to pursue one more world title for his trophy cabinet.

So far this season, Ogier has taken an impressive six victories. The current championship leader, Elfyn Evans, has only two wins to his name this year.

The pair will decide the title in the final rally of the season in Saudi Arabia next week. Evans holds a slender three-point lead over Ogier, so it is likely that the champion will be the driver who brings home the better result.

Ogier started his psychological warfare immediately after the Japan WRC round held a couple of weeks ago.

“Psychologically, we’re in a strong position. We’ve dominated Elfyn in all ten of our rallies this season,” Ogier said.

Evans scored his two wins earlier in the year in Sweden and Kenya – the very rallies Ogier skipped.

“He only finished ahead of us in Central Europe following our incident. We have the advantage, but that doesn’t mean much. Only the result will count,” Ogier stressed.

Saudi Arabia is a completely new event in the World Rally Championship. Tough conditions are reportedly expected, which could produce some dramatic moments during the rally.

Ogier hopes the title will not be decided by a random puncture or something similar.

“We need to have a decent final because we deserve that after such a season. Hopefully it won’t be too much of a lottery,” Ogier said.

The Saudi Arabian WRC round will be held from 26–29 November in the Jeddah area.
