The Czech manufacturer dominated the WRC2 category of the World Rally Championship and other international series for years with its Rally2 machine and its predecessor, the R5-spec car. Between 2016 and 2023, the WRC2 title went to a non-Skoda driver only once – Citroen’s Mads Østberg during the shortened 2020 season.
Last year, Skoda faced a new challenge as Toyota entered the Rally2 scene with its GR Yaris Rally2. The car proved to be highly competitive, and the WRC2 championship ultimately went to Toyota driver Sami Pajari.
Now, Skoda has responded to Toyota’s challenge by significantly upgrading its Rally2 contender. The components in the update package have been tested over a distance of more than 4,000 kilometres, with feedback gathered from 12 different drivers.
The engine-related updates are focused on improving the thermodynamic characteristics of the Fabia’s powertrain.
The redesigned exhaust system enhances exhaust gas flow, which improves mixture preparation and combustion. According to the manufacturer, the changes also reduce overall weight, and when combined with new engine management software, deliver more power to the wheels.
One of the key improvements in the update package is a newly developed gravel damper, designed for better durability and performance on rougher surfaces. In addition, the enhanced rear upright protection is intended to increase the lifespan of the driveshaft boots, brake callipers, and brake cooling hoses.
Another modification includes a redesigned roof vent, aimed at improving airflow into the cockpit.

“Work on a successful rally car is never finished. The Skoda Fabia RS Rally2 has enjoyed great success so far, and we are always striving to keep it at the top. That’s why we have continued developing the car since its launch. The new modifications have been thoroughly tested, proven their worth, and are now homologated by the FIA for customer use,” said Michal Hrabánek, Head of Skoda Motorsport.
The update package is included with new Rally2 cars and is also available to existing owners of the Skoda Fabia RS Rally2.
