Sebastien Ogier set the fastest time on the first run of the Laraquete stage, followed by Kalle Rovanperä and Elfyn Evans. Rovanperä was significantly quicker than Evans, increasing his overall lead to 19.3 seconds.
“It was quite tricky, for sure the road is getting slower and slower by each car, there is more mud coming out everywhere. I think the guys in front didn’t have so much fog and it is coming out for us, comparing to the guys in front it is not bad in these conditions,” Rovanperä said.
“The fog increased towards the end. It made the fast sections tricky. The grip was also very inconsistent,” Evans added.
Hyundai’s Ott Tänak remains in third, now 40 seconds behind the leader. Championship leader Thierry Neuville is fourth, 14.3 seconds behind Tänak.
“Conditions not too bad at all, there is no confidence and it is difficult,” Tänak remarked.
“Overall, the target for us is claim the points from yesterday, see if we can take some today. I think we could’ve done more, but with the feeling we had we did what we could,” Neuville explained.
After retiring on Saturday, Toyota’s Sebastien Ogier was in dominant form on Sunday morning’s opening stage.
“This one is okay, in terms of visibility at least, but the next one looks to be a nightmare with 20m visibility,” Ogier commented.
M-Sport Ford’s Adrien Fourmaux holds fifth overall, ahead of Toyota’s Sami Pajari. Hyundai’s Esapekka Lappi, who set the fourth-fastest time on the opening stage of Super Sunday, remains eighth in the overall standings.
Three more stages remain at Rally Chile on Sunday.
