Rally leader Tänak started Sunday morning strongly, setting the fastest time on the Smokovo stage, which was being run for the first time.

This time, Tänak was 1.8 seconds quicker than Toyota’s Sébastien Ogier. The pair immediately pulled away in the Super Sunday standings as well.

The pace of the duo is highlighted by the fact that Hyundai’s Thierry Neuville lost 17.6 seconds to the stage-winning time and Toyota’s Elfyn Evans dropped 18.3 seconds.

Sami Pajari, who was previously forced to retire, made his return to the stages and immediately came out on top among the Finnish drivers. He was over 10 seconds quicker than Toyota’s Kalle Rovanperä. Pajari was slightly surprised by his own pace.

“It was really slippery, I just tried not to do anything stupid. I could have been quicker, but I didn’t expect to be fast,” Pajari summed up.

Rovanperä, who had to retire on Saturday, revealed a rather no-frills plan of his own. His focus is already on the afternoon stages.

“We’re just trying to get to the Power Stage and then we’ll see what we can do there,” Rovanperä said.

In the overall standings, Tänak’s lead remains solid. The Estonian now leads the rally by 45.4 seconds over Ogier. In terms of Super Sunday points, Tänak leads Ogier by 1.8 seconds.

Three more special stages remain to be run on Sunday at Rally Greece.
