Fourmaux claimed his first stage win of the rally, beating Toyota’s Sébastien Ogier by 0.5 seconds on the Góis stage. The Frenchman also moved up to second overall, jumping ahead of Toyota’s Kalle Rovanperä.
Drivers starting further down the order benefited from cleaner roads on the Góis stage. Elfyn Evans, who was first on the road, lost 8.9 seconds to Fourmaux, while second-on-the-road Rovanperä dropped 5.8 seconds.
Hyundai’s Ott Tänak continues to lead the rally, but Fourmaux is now just 2.1 seconds behind his teammate. Rovanperä, now third, sits 5.8 seconds off the lead, with Ogier 7.6 seconds behind.
Toyota’s Takamoto Katsuta set the third-fastest time on the Góis stage and climbed to fifth overall, overtaking Evans. The top six remain tightly bunched, covered by only 11.3 seconds.
Reigning world champion Thierry Neuville is still seventh, 18.6 seconds behind Tänak. Neuville lost time due to a spin on the morning’s opening stage. Behind him in eighth is Toyota’s Sami Pajari.
Seven more stages remain on Friday. The rally concludes on Sunday.
