The weather forecast predicts heavy rain for Sunday, and if that hits, the competition could see plenty more drama.
A downpour could, for better or worse, significantly shake up the standings and alter the balance of power. Elfyn Evans of Toyota, who spent all of Saturday locked in a tight fight with his team-mate Sébastien Ogier, is well aware of this.
“It’ll be a bit of a lottery tomorrow if it rains. I’ll have to make some guesses with the car setup and where we place ourselves,” Evans predicted.
“We don’t actually have much experience with this, and the car we’re using here is quite different from the last time we drove in the rain. So we’ll just have to see how it goes,” he continued.
Evans had to concede slightly to Ogier during the afternoon loop, but everything remains wide open heading into Sunday. Ogier leads the rally, but championship leader Evans is lurking just 6.5 seconds behind.
“I think it was really close,” Evans said of Saturday’s fierce battle.
“Overall, the afternoon was good as well — it was just the last two stages where I lost more time than I should have, or more than I would have liked,” he summarised.
Evans also pointed out the moments where he lost a little too much time to Ogier.
“On the penultimate stage, I had a small moment where I went a little wide. I probably lost a second or two there, and then another one or one and a half elsewhere. It wasn’t the best run, but I tried,” Evans concluded.
