Johansson, 19, secured the ERC Junior title over the weekend by finishing second in his class at the Wales round. This title comes with a substantial reward, as he will compete in the JWRC next season in a Ford Fiesta Rally3 car.
Johansson has consistently delivered strong performances in the European Rally Championship rounds this season. Competing in an Opel Corsa Rally4, the Swedish driver has finished on the podium in every rally and claimed two victories.
There was a great sense of relief when the championship was confirmed on Sunday.
“It’s really good. The team has always delivered a good-performing car, no problems all season,” Johansson rejoiced.
The last time a Swedish driver won the ERC Junior was in 2015, when Emil Bergkvist took the title.
Johansson also competed in the European Rally Championship last year, but he finished eighth in the junior standings.
“I’m really happy because all the hard work paid off. Now we are in a full season in Junior WRC next year and I’m really happy for that as well,” Johansson enthused.
Johansson already participated in a JWRC event this season at his home rally, Rally Sweden, where he claimed victory in a dominant fashion ahead of Romet Jürgenson. Estonian driver Jürgenson has a chance to win the JWRC title this upcoming weekend at the Acropolis Rally in Greece.
