Over the course of the hot summer gravel rallies, Toyota abandoned the black design of its Rally1 cars. Instead, the GR Yaris Rally1 machines were given a silver livery for the rounds in Portugal, Sardinia, Greece, Estonia and Finland.

The silver colour scheme was introduced to reduce the build-up of heat inside the cars during scorching conditions. Now that the hottest gravel rallies of the year are behind, Toyota has reverted to its familiar black look.

The WRC stars got their first taste of Rally Paraguay on Thursday with shakedown, where it was revealed that Toyota’s cars were once again running in black.

It was also notable that Sami Pajari, who competes with Toyota’s so-called satellite team, is now driving a black-liveried car in Paraguay. Up until now, Pajari’s car has primarily run in white.

According to information available, Toyota intends to compete with the black design for the remainder of the season. After Rally Paraguay, championship points will still be fought for in Chile, the Central European Rally, Japan and Saudi Arabia.

Rally Paraguay gets underway in earnest on Friday, with eight special stages on the schedule.
