Evans found an excellent rhythm in his driving on Saturday, consistently hitting his stride. This allowed the Welshman to take the lead in the rally during the morning. However, in the afternoon, conditions became extremely challenging due to thick fog. Kalle Rovanperä managed the difficult conditions best, overtaking his teammate Evans to lead the rally by 15.1 seconds.
After the day’s events, Evans expressed that there was little he could do in the dense fog, describing the conditions as nearly dangerous.
“The problem was that I couldn’t even define where the edge of the road was. Honestly, up there, you couldn’t see even 20-30 meters in front of you,” Evans explained.
“You’d only see a jump right when you were about to take off. The issue is that they built the Power Stage in that area, and there’s no kind of definition to the sides of the road. You could be completely off track or heading in the wrong direction, and you wouldn’t even notice it,” Evans continued.
Evans believes that the fog may not have been as severe for other drivers as it was for him.
“I’d say it was worse for me and Ott (Tänak). I could play the victim here, but we did what we could,” Evans concluded.
