Evans finished second in the season opener in Monte Carlo and celebrated victories both in Sweden and Kenya. The 36-year-old Welshman leads the WRC standings with a 36-point advantage over Hyundai’s Thierry Neuville, who claimed the championship last year.
Although Evans has built a considerable lead in the points, there are still 11 rallies to go, so the season is still in its early stages. What is clear, however, is that Evans has once again found the form to genuinely fight for the championship.
During the 2020–21 seasons, Evans was Sebastien Ogier’s toughest rival in the WRC but had to settle for second place on both occasions. He also finished as runner-up in the 2023 and 2024 seasons, although the gap to the champion was more significant during those years.
“I mean, it’s definitely not been a bad start for us. We’re happy with how the season starts gone, obviously, but you know, it’s a long season. Still a lot of events to go,” Evans emphasised.
“A lot can happen between now and the end of the season.”
Evans stressed that he is keeping his mind in check and focusing on one rally at a time.
“I don’t know what it looks like, but it doesn’t matter. It’s very early days. It doesn’t mean anything yet. Yeah,” Evans said.
The WRC season continues with a brand-new round in the Canary Islands at the end of April.
