This year, Sesks is competing in selected WRC events with M-Sport’s Ford Puma Rally1 car. His next outing with the Puma will be at the WRC Rally Portugal in May.

Last weekend, Sesks was already in Portugal, preparing for his next big challenge. He entered the Rally Serras de Fafe, part of the Portuguese rally championship, where he faced two experienced rivals: Kris Meeke and Dani Sordo.

Sesks quickly found good pace in a Past Racing Ford Fiesta Rally2 car and even took the rally lead from Toyota driver Meeke on the fifth stage. But then trouble struck for the Latvian.

A power steering failure forced Sesks to retire on stage seven, allowing Meeke to cruise to victory ahead of Sordo.

Sesks revealed to the Portuguese AutoSport website that he might get another chance to compete in Portugal before the WRC round. His next visit to Portugal could be in early May for the third round of the local championship, Rally Terras d’Aboboreira.

The gravel event would provide another opportunity for Sesks to familiarise himself with Portuguese rally stages. It would serve as valuable preparation for the WRC round two weeks later, even if he would be driving a Rally2 car.

Reportedly, Sesks will also get to test Ford’s Rally1 car before the WRC Portugal round, ensuring solid preparation for his second WRC appearance of the season.

Sesks, 25, has competed in Rally Portugal once before. In 2021, he claimed victory in the JWRC category in the Porto region.

Last year, Sesks made his breakthrough in the WRC’s top class, getting the chance to showcase his talent with M-Sport’s machinery. This season, he is set to compete in about half of the championship’s rounds.

WRC Rally Portugal takes place on 15–18 May.
