Sesks claimed his fourth career European Championship rally win in dominant fashion, beating local hero Mikolaj Marczyk—who finished second—by over a minute. Sesks also won in Poland in 2023. In addition, he has celebrated victory in a European Championship rally twice in his home country in 2022–23.
Sesks capped off his dominance on the rally-ending Power Stage, which he won with an impressive margin of 10.3 seconds.
“It’s always great to drive in Poland, and of course it’s fantastic to be number one again,” Sesks beamed.
With his second-place finish, Marczyk rose to the top of the European Championship standings. The Pole now leads the series by 16 points over Mads Østberg, who finished fifth in Poland. Roope Korhonen, who retired after going off the road on Sunday morning, dropped from the lead to third place. Korhonen is tied on points with Sweden’s Isak Reiersen and Italy’s Andrea Mabellini.
“It’s definitely a great thing. Unfortunately, we weren’t able to fight for Power Stage points. Still, that’s not a problem. I’m pleased with the podium. This was an important result for the championship. Now we have to continue on the same path, be consistent and finish rallies,” Marczyk said.
Irish driver Jon Armstrong reached the podium for the second time in his European Championship career, finishing third. He previously made the podium in last season’s final round at the Rally Silesia in Poland. Armstrong trailed rally winner Sesks by one minute and 15 seconds.
“I’ve now finished on the podium twice in Poland—once on tarmac and now on gravel. It was great to be in the top three on gravel as well. This was a great weekend, though by no means an easy rally,” Armstrong summed up.
Reiersen finished fourth ahead of Østberg, Simone Tempestini and Mille Johansson.
The European Rally Championship continues next in Rome in July. The ERC season will conclude with four tarmac events, with asphalt action following in Czechia, Wales, and Croatia after Rome.
