Career

Rallying has strong traditions in Oliver Solberg’s family. His father, Petter Solberg, won the World Rally Championship in 2003 when Oliver was just two years old. It’s no surprise, then, that Oliver, who has been around WRC rallies from a young age, has directed his career towards special stages.

Competing under the Swedish flag, Solberg began racing in crosskarts and took his first victory at the age of 8. He won the Norwegian crosskart championship in 2012 and 2014. Solberg celebrated the Nordic championship in the same discipline for three consecutive years from 2014 to 2016.

Solberg transitioned to rally driving at the age of 15, competing in the Latvian rally series’ junior class in the 2017 season with a Peugeot in the R2 category. He also competed in the RallyX Nordix series in a full-fledged Supercar and won the series championship in 2018.

Good results started coming in rally as well, and eventually, in 2019, he participated in his first WRC rally in Wales driving a Volkswagen Polo R5. In the 2019 season, he achieved his first WRC3 class victory in the Estonia WRC and also clinched the European Rally Championship’s ERC1 Junior class championship that year.

Solberg moved to Hyundai’s WRC2 team for the 2021 season and also got the chance to compete in Hyundai’s WRC car in select rallies that year. In the 2022 season, he shared driving duties with Hyundai’s third Rally1 car with Dani Sordo.

The year 2022 was a massive disappointment for Solberg, and Hyundai did not extend the young Swede’s contract. For the 2023 season, Solberg returned to the WRC2 class.

In the 2023 season, the Swede competed in the WRC2 class driving a Skoda. Solberg managed to secure two victories – from Chile and Sweden. He finished the season sixth in the final standings of the series.
