Competing in his home event, the Acropolis Rally, behind the wheel of an M-Sport Ford Rally1 car, Serderidis suffered in Friday’s blazing temperatures and, according to reports from the scene, was already feeling unwell on Saturday morning.
Despite this, Serderidis bravely decided to continue, but ultimately could not go the distance. He was forced to retire from the rally.
“Yesterday was really tough. Really tough with the heat, and there’s still some fatigue from that,” said M-Sport team principal Richard Millener.
Serderidis is already among the older drivers in the championship, so continuing his hobby under such conditions would not have made sense.
“He’s really disappointed that he’s had to pull out this morning, but it was the safest thing for him,” Millener added.
Millener did, however, provide some reassuring news about Serderidis’ condition.
“We’ll get him cooled down, get some fluids and food back into him, and hopefully he’s ready again tomorrow. So he’s fine,” Millener reported.
