The French star will take part in the Rally Terras d’Aboboreira at the beginning of May, an event that forms part of the Portuguese national rally championship and is held around the city of Amarante.
The same region will also host Rally de Portugal, a WRC round scheduled for two weeks later. As such, Fourmaux will get the chance to run his Hyundai i20 N Rally1 car in competition conditions ahead of the WRC event.
WRC teams are allocated only a limited number of test days per season. Therefore, teams have increasingly taken advantage of national events, which do not count against the official test day allowance.
This season also saw the introduction of a new tyre supplier, Hankook, to the WRC. Drivers have been getting to grips with the new rubber, making every opportunity to test even more valuable.
Fourmaux, who joined Hyundai for the 2025 season, has competed in the Terras d’Aboboreira Rally once before. In 2020, he drove a Ford Fiesta Rally2 to fifth place in the event.
A strong turnout of WRC2 drivers is expected at this year’s edition of Terras d’Aboboreira, as many will be using the rally as preparation for Portugal. The Portuguese championship also offers strong competition for WRC2 entrants, with former WRC stars Kris Meeke and Dani Sordo now racing regularly in the series.
The Rally Terras d’Aboboreira will be held on 2–3 May and will feature ten special stages, covering a total of 114 competitive kilometres. Rally de Portugal will follow from 15–18 May.
The WRC season continues next week on the asphalt roads of the Canary Islands, which will host a WRC round for the first time. Earlier in April, Hyundai’s Thierry Neuville and Toyota’s Elfyn Evans took part in Rally Sierra Morena, a Spanish ERC round, as preparation.
