Last season, Fourmaux gained experience in the WRC2 class, but this season he has returned to the British team’s Rally1 car. Three podium finishes and a total of six times in the top five is an impressive achievement for the French driver.
He admits that he did not expect such a high level of performance at the beginning of the year.
“I think somebody did ask me to write something down on the paper, and the idea was that we’ll see at the halfway point of the season. I did write that I would win a podium in the second half of the season, and we did get three in the first half. I just hope to get the same in the second or even more,” Fourmaux marvels to RallyJournal.com.
The excellent performances have made Fourmaux an interesting name in the driver market. As is well known, there are few spots available, but the Frenchman is not only negotiating with M-Sport.
“It’s in progress, but not with only M-Sport. We’ll see what happens for next year.”, Fourmaux says.
So, you have also been in contact with two other WRC teams?
“We will have to try with everybody, right?”
The next burning question is when Fourmaux will be ready to fight for the WRC title. Currently, the Ford driver is fifth in the standings. The gap to the leader is 44 points, with five rallies remaining.
“This year is not finished. We never know. Imagine we do a really good second half of the season. You never know what can happen. Even this year we’re going to fight for the championship,” Fourmaux declares.
“I feel that we’re ready next year or maybe the year after. I think we have shown that we are already a championship contender.”
