The multiple champion kept his composure and defeated his rivals both in Croatia in April and at the beginning of May in Portugal. Ogier’s season has been successful so far, starting with a second-place finish at Rally Monte Carlo.

Ogier’s season continues in Sardinia this week. The Frenchman has conquered the Rally Sardinia four times, most recently in the 2021 season. Once again, his starting position as a part-time driver is optimal, so success is anticipated.

“We have been on a good run recently with our wins in Croatia and Portugal and we would of course like to try and carry on like this – so the target for Sardinia has to be to continue the sequence if we can,” Ogier emphasises.

“I think we are in a good position: we had a good test there recently, and in Portugal when the surface was sandier and more like Sardinia the car was working well, so hopefully that can be the case there as well.”

In Sardinia, a new shorter race format is being used, but it still includes some very challenging special stages. The most legendary of these is, of course, the Monte Lerno stage, which has been shortened to 25 kilometres this year.

“It’s always a difficult challenge with long stages and the need for tyre management, but it’s a rally that I learned to love and to master over my career and I hope we can have another successful trip there,” Ogier concludes.

The Rally Sardinia starts on Friday morning with a shakedown stage. The actual event kicks off on Friday afternoon with a total of four special stages.
