Although Pajari already had the chance to drive Toyota’s Rally1 car in three WRC events this season, he will be a full-time team driver next year. The Finnish hopeful’s contract covers all 14 WRC events in the top class.
Pajari’s signing was announced during a press conference in Japan. On stage stood a visibly shy Finnish driver, adjusting to the situation.
Pajari’s remarks were exactly what one would expect, showing that his media training had clearly paid off.
“It was really nice to get my first taste of the Rally1 car this year. I definitely wasn’t expecting to do three rallies in the top car this season. A huge thanks to Toyota – this was only possible because of them.”
Pajari then assured everyone that he plans to make the most of his experiences this year.
“I really can’t wait to do a full season next year. There will be a lot to learn. I know the competition is incredibly tough, but there’s no other team I would rather do this with than Toyota. I really appreciate the support from all the other drivers, co-drivers, engineers, mechanics—everyone. They are so great to work with, and the support I’m getting from them is an incredible help.”
“I know it will be fun and enjoyable, but also challenging at the same time,” Pajari concluded his remarks.
However, Pajari left one significant detail unanswered: who will be reading his notes next season.
Following the conclusion of Rally Japan on Sunday, Pajari announced that his partnership with co-driver Enni Mälkönen had ended this year. During Monday’s press conference, he stated that news of his new co-driver would be shared later.
This season, Pajari and Mälkönen secured the WRC2 title together in Toyota’s Rally2 car.
