“Race to the Clouds” is set to take place on 23 June in Colorado, USA. This marks the 102nd running of the race, which has been held since 1916.

Hyundai is slated to enter several cars in the Pikes Peak. Dani Sordo, known from Hyundai’s WRC rally team, will be showcasing his talent in Colorado for the first time. In addition, behind the wheel for Hyundai will be eleven-time Pikes Peak winner Paul Dallenbach and four-time champion Robin Shute.

Hyundai will name another driver later for the classic race. The models of cars the drivers will be racing have not yet been announced.

“The driver is one of the most critical elements to being successful at the Pikes Peak International Hill Climb. We have selected top experts like Robin Shute and Paul Dallenbach who have won the event overall and in class 15 times. Both these drivers have an incredible track record and know the climb well. The addition of Hyundai Motorsports WRC driver Dani Sordo is very exciting and will help us engage a global audience for the hill climb,” says Till Wartenberg, Hyundai vice president and head of N Brand and Motorsport.

“Pikes Peak is one of the unique and historical challenges still left in motorsports. It has stood the test of time because the mountain never relents. The weather makes getting a clean run extremely difficult and to conquer the mountain everything must go perfectly,” states Randy Parker, CEO of Hyundai Motor America.

The climb at Pikes Peak spans 20 kilometres and includes 156 turns. The ascent totals 1,440 metres.
