On Friday, Hussi announced that she would no longer continue as Joona’s co-driver in the WRC2 category of the World Rally Championship. The pair began their partnership last year with two European Rally Championship rounds, and at the start of this year, Hussi became Joona’s permanent co-driver.
This year, Joona and Hussi participated in six WRC events, achieving two podium finishes in the WRC2 class. At last weekend’s Rally Finland, they secured third place in their Skoda Fabia.
“One amazing rally journey came to an end last week in Jyväskylä. The journey has been extremely educational and has included both ups and downs, as well as sharp turns,” Hussi wrote on Instagram.
“I am grateful to Lauri for all the knowledge I have gained during the season and for being able to take the next step in my rally career. Before Jyväskylä, I made the decision that it would crown our season as our last rally together.”
Hussi’s career as a co-driver began two years ago when Sami Pajari challenged her – then a radio host at Radio Suomipop – to join him as his co-driver in the Lahti Historic Rally. Last season, Hussi read the pace notes for Heikki Kovalainen in the Finnish Rally Championship before moving to Joona’s side.
It appears that Hussi’s rally career will continue.
“The future is not set in stone, but if anything is certain, it’s that I will continue on the rally path. I can’t wait to see what the future holds.”
In two weeks’ time, Hussi will be Jari-Matti Latvala’s co-driver at the Lahti Historic Rally.
