The season took an early start in Monaco, where the year’s opening event was held in the principality. All WRC teams and drivers were present at the event, held at the iconic location in front of the Casino de Monte-Carlo.
Each team was introduced to the crowd, and the WRC drivers and team representatives gathered for a group photo.
The event also marked the return of number 1 to the WRC. Hyundai driver Thierry Neuville claimed the world championship title last year and has decided to exercise his right as champion to use the number 1 on his car.
“Seeing the number one on the car for the full season now, we will never forget 2024,” celebrated the Belgian star, for whom the world championship was the first of his career.
“Nevertheless, it is a new season starting, all counters are on zero again which means we need to have the same motivation and spirit to fight hard and try and defend our title,” Neuville added.
The WRC teams’ new drivers showcased their team overalls at the event. Adrien Fourmaux will compete this year as a Hyundai driver, Sami Pajari begins his first full season as a Toyota driver, and Josh McErlean makes his debut in the top category of the WRC with M-Sport Ford.
“Obviously, it is a dream come true. It will be a big year of learning – these cars are incredible,” McErlean enthused.
The WRC stars and other driver pairs of the Rally Monte Carlo began their reconnaissance on Monday. On Wednesday, the programme includes a shakedown near Gap, the hub of the rally.
On Thursday, the rally caravan returns to Monaco for the official start ceremonies. The first special stages are scheduled for Thursday evening.
