The decision to eliminate hybrid units was made after the conclusion of the past season. While this change will reduce costs, it also has its downsides.
The removal of hybrid units will result in less power for the cars. On the other hand, the cars will also be lighter.
The reduction in power hasn’t been well received by all the drivers, who naturally prefer the most powerful cars possible.
“Obviously, there’s no driver in the world who will tell you that they want a slower car,” Neuville stated bluntly to RallyJournal.com
“Obviously, the cars will be slower,” Neuville continued.
The reduced power will make the cars slower, but how significant is the change otherwise?
“I don’t think it will be visible from the outside, but as a driver, you can feel the difference,” Neuville observed.
“But, very quickly, we will get used to it. The job will still be the same. We need to drive as fast as possible, so not much more to say about it,” Neuville added.
Having had a long career in the WRC, Neuville has driven and experienced a variety of cars. Now, a new era begins, and adaptation will be key.
“I am very, very happy to have been part of what were probably the fastest WRC cars during the Rally1 era. But now it’s time for a new era,” Neuville concluded.
