The International Automobile Federation (FIA) outlined its vision for the future of the WRC. Hybrid units will be removed from the current premier class Rally1 cars after this season, and efforts will be made to significantly reduce the cost of the cars and the expenses of the teams.

This rally revelation completely overshadowed another important announcement made following the meeting of the FIA’s World Motor Sport Council.

Swede Pernilla Solberg will henceforth serve as president of the World Rally Championship commission. Solberg has long been an influential figure behind the scenes in rally and rallycross.

Pernilla Solberg comes from one of the world’s most renowned rally families. Her husband, Petter Solberg, won the World Rally Championship once and the FIA World Rallycross Championship twice. Their son, Oliver Solberg, is currently working hard to rise to the WRC premier class. Pernilla Solberg’s parents and uncle also have a strong background in rally driving.

Solberg has previously led the PSRX team to a team championship in the World Rallycross Championship. She has worked as a member of the FIA Technical Working Group for rallycross and represented rallycross teams in the FIA Off-Road Commission.

Pernilla Solberg succeeds Swede Roger Engström as president of the WRC Commission, who held the position from 2022 to 2023.

The WRC Commission is responsible for the governance and development of the World Rally Championship.
