WRC French star brimming with confidence – sets high goal for Poland

M-Sport Ford was not supposed to have any star drivers in this season's WRC series, but Adrien Fourmaux has had a different view since the beginning of the season.

Fourmaux already stormed onto the podium in the second rally of the season in Sweden and has continued to perform consistently since then.

This summer, the French sensation faces a new challenge as the rally circus dives into fast gravel roads. Poland, Latvia, and Finland will not lack for speed.

Adrien Fourmaux has prepared for the gravel events by testing in Estonia.

“The tests were nice and positive,” Fourmaux told Rallye Sport.

“The only problem was that we had only one test day for three fast gravel rallies. We’re trying to find some kind of compromise for three fast races, but now we were more on Latvian and Finnish roads, with an average speed of 140 km/h in Estonia,” Fourmaux continued.

“In Poland, the roads are narrower between the trees. We might have found a better place to test, but it wasn’t very easy.”

After the fast gravel rallies in Poland and Latvia, the legendary Rally Finland is up next. The rally will be held in Central Finland at the beginning of August.

“The only difference to other teams is that others have a test area in Finland. That’s a big advantage. I would have liked to have one test day in terrain like Finland,” Fourmaux lamented.

The first part of the trilogy of fast gravel rallies is scheduled for next week in Poland. Fourmaux is brimming with confidence before the competition, even though it is a completely new rally for him.

“Everyone else has driven there except for me and Gregoire (Munster). Even Martin (Sesks) drove there last year in the European Championship race,” Fourmaux began.

“Thanks to that, we have videos available, so I’ve been able to prepare by watching the driver who set the fastest time on each special stage,” the Frenchman continued, referring to Latvian driver Sesks, who will make his debut in Poland with Ford’s Rally1 car.

Although the Rally Poland consists of stages Fourmaux has never driven, he is very confident ahead of the competition.

“Even though I don’t have the same experience as the others, I have good notes and I’m very confident,” Fourmaux said.

“No one expected me to make the podium in Sweden and to be able to compete with (Elfyn) Evans. So, I expect to be at least as good now in Poland,” Fourmaux declared, brimming with confidence.
