Italian media reported in early January that the Stellantis group had given the green light for Lancia’s new entry into special stages.
Subsequently, the Italian car manufacturer’s brand CEO, Luca Napolitano, announced that the company is working towards a rally comeback.
On Wednesday, Lancia provided more promising hints.
“As we are seeing these days, there is a great love and passion surrounding motorsport, with many fans who have been following us for a long time.”
“We are working on the return of Lancia to rally, knowing that it is a significant marketing lever. This means that we will return to the world of rally only if the return on investment meets our expectations,” Lancia communicated to DirtFish.
Lancia was a powerhouse in the World Rally Championship during the 1970s, 1980s, and early 1990s before withdrawing from motorsport. It has achieved a total of ten manufacturers’ championships and four drivers’ world titles.
Rumors suggest that Lancia might take over Citroen’s Rally2 program. The French manufacturer belongs to the same Stellantis group as Lancia.
