His record from six rallies is impressive: three wins and three second places. His most recent victory was at the Rally Finland last weekend.
With his win in Finland, Ogier jumped to second place in the championship standings, ahead of Hyundai’s Ott Tänak and his Toyota teammate Elfyn Evans. The Frenchman is now 27 points behind the series leader Thierry Neuville, with four rounds remaining.
Originally, the Rally Finland was not part of Ogier’s schedule, but at the team’s request, he added more events to his calendar.
“I’m happy that I took the decision to come to Finland. I enjoyed the week. It was really good fun driving this car on these roads, even if the weather was making it challenging at times,” Ogier said.
So, what will Ogier do now that he is Neuville’s biggest challenger for the title? He revealed his next steps right after the Rally Finland.
“I will be in Greece for sure, and after that we will find out what will happen,” Ogier stated.
The Acropolis Rally in Greece will take place in early September. Following that, the calendar includes three more rounds: the gravel rally in Chile, and the tarmac rallies in Central Europe and Japan.
Toyota team principal Jari-Matti Latvala assured after the Rally Finland that he would try to persuade Ogier to compete in all the remaining rounds of the season.
“I’m sure he will come to me. But first, it’s summer time now and let’s enjoy that time,” Ogier concluded.
