M-Sport has had a solid and consistent season in the World Rally Championship, and the team is now hoping for a positive conclusion to cap it off. A strong finish would provide a great starting point for preparations for the next season.
Among M-Sport’s drivers, Adrien Fourmaux has taken his performance to a whole new level this season, which means expectations are high for him in the season finale.
“We have had a good opportunity on every rally. And I think it would be nice to finish the season off with another strong result. That would be the plan,” said M-Sport team principal Richard Millener.
“So yeah, quite straightforward really in that respect,” Millener added.
However, the start of the event in Japan wasn’t very promising for M-Sport. Fourmaux initially struggled to find his pace during the shakedown.
“I was a bit worried when I saw the first couple of shakedown times. But Adrian sorted his driving style out and at the end it was okay,” Millener explained.
Fourmaux faced differential issues during the Central European Rally, but those problems seem to be resolved now.
“The last time I spoke to the guys, we never found anything wrong. So whether it was a combination of setup and conditions, it’s hard to tell. The minute you feel a little bit uncomfortable and start thinking that maybe something is wrong, it can really play with your mind.”
“And when we stripped it, we had 2 or 3 people watching to ensure nothing was missed. We couldn’t find anything. So it’s a bit of an odd one, but it’s actually a different chassis here, with a different set of units. So it’s completely separate from that,” Millener emphasised.
