The motorsport elite gathered to celebrate the season’s conclusion in Kigali, the capital of Rwanda. While champions received their trophies, other awards were also presented during the event.
Michele Mouton claimed four WRC victories during her career and achieved her career-best second place in the WRC in 1982 while driving for Audi. After her driving career, Mouton continued working in rallying and has now retired at the end of this season to enjoy her well-earned retirement.
Mouton, 73, served as the FIA Safety Delegate for WRC events from 2010 to 2024. At the FIA gala, she was presented with a FIA Lifetime Achievement Award.
Mouton admitted she hadn’t expected such a remarkable accolade despite her long career in motorsport.
“I don’t know what to say, just time is going very fast. I’ve spent 50 years of my life in motorsport, 15 years as a rally driver, 20 years organising the Race of Champions and now 15 years with the FIA,” Mouton said.
“I’m leaving today and today safety is the most important thing and I’m happy with all we do with all the team at the FIA. Now I leave the floor to the younger ones, and I know they will continue very well,” she added.
Mouton remains the only female driver to have won a WRC event to date.
