The European Rally Series has announced that it will hold its first season in 2025. This year, four candidate rallies will be organized for the series.
The first candidate race, Rally Serras de Fafe, will take place this coming weekend. The competition, held on the well-known gravel roads of Northern Portugal, has previously been part of the European Rally Championship, but this year it is only part of the Portuguese national series.
Additionally, the list includes the traditional Ypres and Spa rallies in Belgium. The asphalt rally in Ypres has been held twice in the World Rally Championship as well.
The series’ fourth candidate rally is to be confirmed later. The competition is scheduled for the second weekend of May, during which, among others, the Targa Florio rally in Italy will take place.
“The European Rally Series 2025 is a new rally series at the European level, based on renowned worldwide events such as the Ypres Rally, SPA Rally, Serras de Fafe, among others. Our promotional focus is to be a more appealing series for drivers, teams, and fans of the sport,” the series explains on its website.
“With the same spirit of efficiency, performance, and innovation, we will strive to do our best in terms of promotion, working closely with the organizers of each event.”
The main class of the series is intended for Rally2 cars, which are used in the WRC2 of the World Rally Championship and the main class of the European Championship. Additionally, the series will feature classes for Rally3, Rally4, and Rally5 cars, R-GT class cars, as well as Opel’s fully electric Corsa e-Rally cars.
There is no detailed information on who is behind the new rally series. The contact information provided for the series is an address in Porto, Portugal.
However, it is clear that a significant entity is behind it all, as the candidate races include such well-known rallies.
