Fourmaux impressively finished third in the overall competition in Sweden. This marked the 28-year-old Frenchman’s first podium finish in the main class of the World Rally Championship.

“This is really nice. It was a very strong rally for us, and I think we surprised many people here,” Fourmaux said at the end of the rally.

“I don’t believe anyone expected us to be at this level. I’m really proud of our achievement,” Fourmaux continued.

The Ford Puma also performed excellently on Umeå’s snowy tracks.

“The car has been really good all weekend. The team also did a great job together,” Fourmaux praised.

The conditions at Rally Sweden were extremely challenging, particularly on Friday when the weather gods were against the drivers.

“We’ve seen all possible weather conditions now. Fresh snow and ice. At times, we couldn’t see anything on the stages. This was a really challenging rally, so we’re happy to be on the podium,” Fourmaux sighed contentedly.

Ranked third in the championship points, Fourmaux has always believed that one day he would make it to the podium.

“This just proves that if you never give up, anything is possible,” Fourmaux said.

Did you expect anything like this?

“I did expect to make it to the podium one day, but I certainly didn’t believe it would happen here in Sweden. So, I’m really happy that a French guy made it to the podium in Sweden.”

M-Sport boss Malcolm Wilson was surely a satisfied man after the Frenchman’s best career performance. However, Fourmaux didn’t yet know what the team boss’s message had been.

“I don’t know yet if he’s sent any message. I’ll have to check,” the Frenchman laughed, glancing at his phone.
