Competing for the WRC2 class championship this season, Croatia is not a point-scoring event for Greensmith. Rallying in a Skoda, the British star is fourth in the Rally2 class standings before the final day.

During Saturday’s stages, Greensmith suffered not just one, but multiple tire punctures.

“The day was okay for us. Well, no, it wasn’t actually, it was shit,”Greensmith laughed in an interview with RallyJournal.com.

First, Greensmith experienced a slow puncture. Then another.

“Then we had to put two wets on the rear,” the Skoda driver recounted.

On the third special stage of the morning, Greensmith ended up with completely the wrong tire choice for his car as the road was dry. However, the Brit took full advantage of it, drifting beautifully through the corners.

“It was good. It was dead easy! I was like, ‘Give it a little bit of handbrake. Nice big drift.’ It was nice,” Greensmith grinned.

In the same breath, Greensmith threw out a wild idea.

“I think, for a couple of stages, in every rally, everyone should be forced to have wets on the rear. It looked really cool!”

Although Greensmith is not competing for WRC2 class points in Croatia, he is seriously challenging Finnish driver Sami Pajari for third place in the Rally2 class on the competition’s final day, Sunday. The pair are separated by 14.8 seconds before the last four special stages.

“Well, last year I took 14 seconds off him in the first run of the Power Stage. I know exactly how fast I was last year there,” Greensmith boasted.

“We’ll take the fight to him, but for sure he has improved. So, let’s see.”

Greensmith’s recollections of the statistics are accurate. Last year, he beat Pajari by 14.1 seconds on that particular special stage.
