The brothers both made it to the podium in the WRC2 category. Older brother Yohan Rossel won the class and finished eighth overall. For Yohan, it was his third WRC2 victory at the iconic rally.
“To share this with my brother it’s an incredible feeling. It’s every time same victory here, but not the same sensation at the end,” the 29-year-old Rossel said with excitement.
“This weekend was completely crazy because sometimes it’s down, sometimes it’s high. Somehow I was always leading the class, but you can to do a mistake on every corner with ice. It was never easy,” added the Frenchman, who won his class by nearly three minutes.
Younger brother Leo Rossel also delivered an impressive performance. Two years younger than Yohan, Leo was competing in his first-ever WRC rally and managed to secure third place in the WRC2 category.
“I think he did a incredible job for sure. He learned fast. He also know very well this car in these conditions. Last year he was always fast on muddy sections,” Yohan Rossel praised his younger brother.
“When you finish your first Monte and you finish on podium and when you look his times, it’s incredible. I’m sure he got lot of confidence. I think he proved a lot this weekend.”
Last year, Yohan Rossel fought until the end for the WRC2 championship but ultimately finished fourth. The previous year, he placed third in the category, but his accolades include the 2021 WRC3 title, a class for private Rally2 teams.
It’s clear that this year, the elder Rossel is focused solely on the championship.
“The plan it’s always the same. It’s to take a maximum points on every race. Last year we lose some points for bad things chance or something like that or for my fault also. Now the plan is not do mistakes,” Rossel stated firmly.
After Rally Monte-Carlo, both Rossel brothers will take a few months’ break. They will return to WRC action in April at Rally Islas Canarias.
