Korhonen kicked off his season last weekend with a Skoda Fabia RS Rally2 car, dominating the Finnish Rally Championship round with a convincing victory. For the upcoming Arctic Lapland Rally, taking place at the beginning of February, Korhonen and co-driver Anssi Viinikka will switch to Toyota’s latest Rally2 contender.

Korhonen’s association with Toyota’s WRC team-developed GR Yaris Rally2 car had been speculated since last year. Rautio Motorsport has now confirmed that the driver from Laukaa will transition to the new vehicle.

“The season started off perfectly with a win in Riihimäki. From here on, we continue our campaign with Toyota. I believe the car is already competitive,” Korhonen shared in a team press release.

“We plan to have a couple of days of testing before Arctic Rally to fine-tune the settings. The competition in Rovaniemi will serve as an excellent rehearsal for Sweden, where the competition level will be extremely high.”

This year, Korhonen will compete in the Finnish Rally Championship as well as in the WRC2. His WRC debut with Toyota is scheduled for Rally Sweden in mid-February.

Rautio Motorsport will be responsible for the maintenance and upkeep of Korhonen’s car. Last year, Korhonen clinched the WRC3 championship with support from the team founded by Markku Rautio.

Korhonen becomes the second Finnish driver to compete in this year’s WRC2 with Toyota’s new Rally2 car. Sami Pajari will also participate in the WRC2, driving for the Finnish team Printsport in a GR Yaris.
