The Hyundai driver participated in the Lietuva Rally, which he expectedly won with his Rally1 car. The most important thing was that the Finnish driver got some kilometres on fast gravel roads ahead of next weekend’s Latvian WRC rally.

Lappi had last competed more than three months ago in the Safari Rally Kenya.

“I think it was very important and very good preparation. A lot of new stages, which was very important for me to get something new that I didn’t know, especially after a long break,” Lappi summarised to RallyJournal.com.

On the opening day of the competition, Lappi adjusted his settings in dry conditions, but on the final day, rain poured down. This left the Hyundai driver somewhat frustrated.

“Of course, it could have been dry, as the forecast shows dry weather for this week, but there’s nothing we can do about that,” Lappi noted.

“At least we got to drive in the mud and make some adjustments for that. However, we didn’t get to push the car to the limit here, so I’m not entirely sure how the car will behave when we are driving on the limit this week. But we’ll see,” he added.

Overall, Lappi was satisfied with his stint in Lithuania. This coming weekend, he aims for a good result in the historic first Latvian WRC rally.

“I think we managed to understand the car in these conditions, in case it rains this week. I would say it was successful, but I also have to say that this week will prove whether this was useful or not,” Lappi said.

The Rally Latvia starts on Thursday.
