Fourmaux couldn’t match the pace of the leaders at the beginning of the race, but he drove smartly and without mistakes. As a result, the Frenchman eventually climbed to third place when the front-runners started dropping out due to retirements.

Fourmaux drove a flawless weekend. Considering the circumstances, it was an excellent performance, but compared to his consistent performances this season, it was not even a big surprise anymore.

“We had no preparation coming here in Finland, so no test,” Fourmaux reminded after the race.

“We arrived there on the first loop, and I couldn’t really drive the car. It was so difficult. But then I just kept my head down and stayed focused. I didn’t want to give up and tried to improve the car, which we did throughout the weekend,” Fourmaux recounted.

During his previous visit to the WRC’s top class, Fourmaux made mistakes quite easily, but now the Frenchman once again showed that he can drive well and without mistakes in a fast gravel rally. Fourmaux knew how to pace himself just right and strike when the opportunity arose.

“I had only one goal coming here, and that was to drive without mistakes. We knew that our speed was not on the same level as the leaders,” Fourmaux explained.

“If someone happened to have a puncture or something, we would be ready to take positions. In the end, many had unfortunate incidents, but at least for us, it worked out well. I am very pleased with my fourth podium of the season,” Fourmaux marvelled.

Fourmaux has managed to succeed in very challenging competitions this season. This surprised even him.

“It’s a bit strange that I am a French driver and have taken podiums in Sweden, Poland, and now Finland. It’s quite funny,” Fourmaux pondered.
