Heikki Kovalainen joins forces with co-driver Janne Ferm – set to compete in a legendary rally with a WRC car

Health issues are behind him, and Heikki Kovalainen is once again enjoying life.

Kovalainen, who has suffered from a serious heart problem, will participate in the legendary Rallylegend competition in October, driving a Citroen C3 WRC car. His co-driver will be Janne Ferm, who is best known as Esapekka Lappi’s co-driver.

Ferm is familiar with the Citroen C3 WRC. Lappi and Ferm drove for Citroen’s factory team in the World Rally Championship during the 2019 season, securing three runner-up finishes in the C3 WRC.

Kovalainen is best remembered as a Formula 1 driver. He drove for teams such as Lotus and McLaren and secured one Grand Prix victory in the F1 series.

After his F1 career, Kovalainen has competed in various motorsport categories. He has raced successfully in Japan’s national rally series, winning the championship twice.

Kovalainen underwent surgery in the spring due to an aortic aneurysm, but now, fortunately, the serious health issues are behind him, and he can once again enjoy life and continue his racing career.

This year, a large number of well-known names will participate in Rallylegend. Among them is Adrien Fourmaux, who will compete in a Ford Puma Rally1 car with his co-driver Alexandre Coria.

A third notable name in the competition is Luca Pedersoli, who has won the WRC class at Rallylegend multiple times. This time, he will compete in the event with a Hyundai i20 WRC.

The traditional Rallylegend event will be held in San Marino from 10th to 13th October. The event has annually attracted a huge number of spectators along the special stages, eager to admire the legendary rally cars.
