Kovalainen, known from rallying and Formula 1, underwent open-heart surgery and shared the news on his Instagram account.

In March, Kovalainen revealed startling news. He was diagnosed with an ascending aortic aneurysm.

Over the weekend, Kovalainen updated his condition on his Instagram account.

“I was operated on last week at Tampere University Hospital. It was open-heart surgery, so I have marks forever now on my chest,” Kovalainen shared.

“The surgery went well, and we managed to get done exactly what we were planning to do,” Kovalainen continued.

Open-heart surgery is no trivial matter.

“It was obviously a big operation. A couple of days after the operation, I was feeling a bit rough.”

In the video, Kovalainen mentioned that the prognosis for recovery is good. However, he noted that only time will ultimately reveal the outcome.

Kovalainen, 42, has had a long career in motorsports. He raced in Formula 1 from 2007 to 2013, achieving one Grand Prix victory. After his F1 career, Kovalainen has competed in the Japanese Rally Championship, winning the championship twice.
