Over the past six seasons, the Korean brand has celebrated victory on the Mediterranean island five times. Although the previous round in Portugal saw Toyota’s Sebastien Ogier take the win, Hyundai moved to the top of the manufacturers’ standings, holding a four-point lead over their Japanese rivals.

“Portugal proved to be another positive step forward for the team. From the double podium to claiming the lead of the manufacturers’ championship.”

Ott (Tänak) is feeling more at one with the car, there was a lot of good to take away from the event.”

In addition to Tänak, Hyundai will field championship leader Thierry Neuville and the rally veteran Dani Sordo, a specialist in tough gravel rallies, in Sardinia.

“We make the trip to Sardinia now knowing that we have three crews that can push hard on gravel, so we are hoping for a strong result,” Cyril Abiteboul summarises.

“It has also been one of the most successful rallies for the team historically, so we are hoping for a clean podium finish.”
