The duo had previously claimed only one World Rally Championship victory when they celebrated first place in Central Finland during the 2017 season. Naturally, the joy was at its peak when the second victory finally came their way.

“Feeling damn good!” Ferm exclaimed to RallyJournal.com.

“People rarely remember how long it has taken to achieve something in life, but this is something many will remember.”

In Umeå, Sweden, the Finnish pair’s teamwork was seamless, and all the stars aligned. Lappi and Ferm began to secure their victory from Saturday morning, when Takamoto Katsuta slid his Toyota into a snowbank.

“The days are long, but a rally is always long. We’ve experienced the other side as well. Now everything just clicked into place. It’s hard to say more, there are so many emotions at the moment,” Ferm sighed.

“It’s been many years since the last win, and a lot has happened in between. Let’s take this and enjoy it. Then we’ll focus on Kenya,” Ferm continued.

Ferm has been reading the pace notes for Lappi for a decade. There have been tougher times, but the trust in their process has always been there.

“We wouldn’t be here if there wasn’t trust. It’s always been there. Now everything just fell into place, and luck was on our side, but that’s needed in this sport too.”
