Latvala has regularly competed in his historic-class Toyota Celicas alongside his duties as a WRC team boss.
Last year, the Finnish veteran also had the chance to compete in a Toyota Rally1 car in Rally Finland and in a Toyota Rally2 classification car in a round of the Japanese rally series. In Finland, Latvala finished fifth, and he claimed victory at the Rally Hokkaido in Japan.
In a couple of weeks, Latvala will perform his team principal duties at Rally Monte Carlo, but the following week, he plans to jump into the cockpit of a rally car. Latvala has registered for the Arctic Lapland Rally in Finland.
Latvala is set to start the competition in a Toyota Celica ST185 car. Co-driving for him will be Juho Hänninen, with whom Latvala has participated in rallies after his active career.
The duo last competed in Lapland two years ago. At that time, their Arctic adventure ended in a retirement due to an engine failure.
A strong lineup is expected for the Arctic Rally, as rumors suggest Kalle Rovanperä will be entering the competition in a Toyota Rally1 car. The competition would serve as a good warm-up for Rovanperä before the Swedish WRC round. It’s possible that more Rally1 cars will be seen in Arctic Rally.
The list of registered competitors already includes one well-known name from the WRC: Nikolay Gryazin. The Russian driver, competing under the Bulgarian flag, is coming to the Arctic Circle in a Citroen C3 Rally2 car.
Part of the Finnish Rally Championship series, the Arctic Lapland Rally is scheduled for February 2-3.
