Kalle Rovanperä gets a first taste of his circuit car – “Can’t wait to start racing”

This year is a busy one for Kalle Rovanperä, even as he takes a mini sabbatical from his main job in the World Rally Championship.

In addition to the World Rally Championship, Rovanperä will also be racing in the Porsche Carrera Cup Benelux series this year, as well as competing in the Formula Drift series in Japan and the 24-hour race at Fuji, also in Japan.

On Thursday, Rovanperä got his first taste of his Porsche for the circuit racing series. The Finnish star had a chance to test on the track, and there was plenty to learn.

“First test with the 992 Cup car for me was interesting! Really enjoyed the driving and working with the new team,” Rovanperä summarized on Instagram.

“A lot of new things to learn but can’t wait to go racing.”

Rovanperä’s season in the World Rally Championship began in February at Rally Sweden, which, unfortunately, ended early for him due to a crash on Friday. He will compete again in Safari Rally Kenya in a couple of weeks.

The Finnish star is not stressed, even though his racing calendar has quickly filled up. He finds circuit races and drifting events to be much more relaxed than WRC.

“The idea of a gap year was definitely to have more time to do other things that interest me personally. Circuit stuff is definitely one of those,” Rovanperä explained earlier to RallyJournal.com.

“Even though there are many race weekends, a week is much shorter when you go to circuit races just for the weekend. Plus, it’s new and interesting, so it feels a bit different,” the rally champion added.
