Next season, Rovanperä returns as a full-time driver in the World Rally Championship. The season opener, the Rally Monte Carlo, takes place in late January, but before that, Rovanperä will compete on the track.
On Monday, Rovanperä announced he will participate in the Dubai 24-hour endurance race.
“Starting my season in 10-12th Jan at Dubai 24h with fellow Finns Jukka Honkavuori, Jani Käkelä, and Mark Wallenwein and Joel Monegro in Huber Racing Porsche GT3R,” Rovanperä shared on his social media channels.
This year, Rovanperä had a lighter schedule in the WRC, which allowed him to test his skills in circuit racing. During the season, he competed in four rounds of the Porsche Carrera Cup Benelux series.
Jani Käkelä, who will team up with Rovanperä in Dubai, also raced in the same series this year and secured the Pro-Am class championship.
Jukka Honkavuori brings extensive experience in circuit racing and previously won the 991 class in the Dubai 24-hour race in 2020.
German driver Mark Wallenwein has competed in both rallying and circuit racing, while Swiss driver Joel Monegro has experience racing Porsches on the track.
Rovanperä will race the Porsche GT3R for the first time. This car offers more power than the Porsche Carrera Cup car, is lighter, and features an improved aerodynamic package.
After the Dubai race, Rovanperä will shift his focus back to the WRC. The Rally Monte Carlo is scheduled for 23–26 January.
