Rally Liepaja in Latvia has long been part of the European Rally Championship, but this summer, it will be held with World Championship status for the first time. The event headquarters are, as usual, located in the city of Liepaja, but the rally will kick off in the country’s capital, Riga.

The competition’s opening super special stage will be held on Thursday of the rally week at the Bikernieki motor racing track. The area features separate tracks for karting, circuit racing, rallycross, and speedway.

The organisers have now announced that a 10.8-kilometre long opening stage will be raced in Bikernieki. This is an unusually long spectator stage.

According to the map, the special stage will utilise Bikernieki’s asphalt-coated “forest track”, the karting track, and the rallycross track.

The stage immediately received praise from RallyJournal.com’s route expert, Antti Loponen.

“That’s quite epic for super special stage,” Loponen exclaimed on X.

The routes for the other special stages of Rally Latvia will be revealed in the coming weeks.

The Latvian round is scheduled for 18-21 July.
