A new episode of the More than Machine documentary series, which chronicles M-Sport’s journey in the WRC, was released on Thursday. The latest instalment offers a behind-the-scenes look at Rally Finland and Rally Greece from M-Sport’s perspective.

The episode highlights the immense pressure the team’s mechanics face, especially when something major goes wrong.

M-Sport driver Grégoire Munster had a massive crash at Rally Finland, with his car left in ruins. At the Lutakko service park, the team was met with a grim sight as Munster’s Ford Puma was brought back on a tow truck. The crew knew they had just four hours to get the car back into race-ready condition.

Amazingly, the team’s mechanics succeeded. By the time Munster’s Ford Puma left the service park, it was almost flawless.

“Best team on the job. Never worried,” team principal Richard Millener joked in the episode.

Munster was, of course, deeply grateful to his team, saying they had earned a round of cold beers — after the rally, of course.

“It was brilliant team effort. I will also give them a little drink now,” Munster said, clearly pleased.

This isn’t the first time M-Sport has pulled off such a heroic effort. In the 2015 Rally Mexico, then-M-Sport driver Ott Tänak veered into a reservoir, submerging his car in shallow water. Even then, despite time constraints, the mechanics managed to get Tänak’s car race-ready, allowing him to finish the rally.
