The two-time World Rally Champion Marcus Grönholm will participate in the Eifel Rally Festival, scheduled for August 15-17. The event organizer announced this on Wednesday on their website.

The rally is located in the Vulkaneifel area near the cities of Koblenz and Cochem. According to the organizer, already 127 crews have registered for the event, even though registration has only been open for just under a week.

The event’s aim is to showcase a wide selection of rally cars, and stage times may not be the most crucial aspect. It is not yet known which car Grönholm will compete in.

Grönholm won the World Rally Championship in 2000 and 2002 driving for Peugeot, with Timo Rautiainen as his co-driver.

“I’ve heard a lot about this Festival. I’m glad that I can be there this time,” Grönholm enthuses.

“We’re really looking forward to ‘Magic Marcus’ taking part. We are currently still holding promising talks with other top drivers from rallying history about their participation. The fans can look forward, not just to a very diverse field of starters, but also to one or two surprises,” says Otmar Anschütz, head of organisation in the MSC Daun that runs the Festival.

Grönholm last competed in the Logiman Mythical Cars rally last year, where he crashed out after the finish of a stage. In 2019, he drove a Toyota Yaris WRC in Rally Sweden, but he did not avoid visits to the ditches then either.
