Many stages were cancelled due to the poor behaviour of spectators, but the ones that were completed went excellently for Sesks. After the rally’s opening day, the Latvian is impressively in fifth place overall, just 7.7 seconds behind rally leader Andreas Mikkelsen.

“The first loop went quite well. During the second run, there were many ruts, which I had expected,” Sesks summarised.

In the afternoon, the Latvian especially suffered due to the spectators. On the sixth special stage, Sesks had to wait a long time for the green light to start. The following stage was then cancelled entirely for everyone.

“The start of the stage was delayed twice. The first time, when you’re ready to go, the feeling diminishes a bit. First, they said you could drive and then you couldn’t. It’s a bit confusing,” Sesks said.

“It’s really important that spectators follow the instructions. Otherwise, it ends up like this, where we spend the whole day on road sections and only drive a few stages in between. Of course, for everyone’s safety, it’s best to do as the organisers say.”
