Securing the championship would require the Swedish talent to win in Chile, but after Friday, Solberg is second in his class.

The gap to class leader Nikolai Gryazin is 10.2 seconds. However, Solberg was pleased with his day, as everything went according to plan.

“I’m happy with today. I’m around ten seconds behind, so it’s not too bad,” said Solberg.

“The plan was not to be 10-15 seconds behind. Last year, I was 12 seconds behind the leader at this stage, so I knew I could be somewhere around that now as well. The plan was of course to lead, but it was very slippery and difficult morning. And same was in the afternoon,” Solberg continued.

However, Solberg managed to handle the challenging conditions extremely well.

“I didn’t make any mistakes, so it was good enough,” he said.

Rally Chile features slightly different stages today compared to Friday.

“I think it should suit me quite well. On Saturday, the sweeping will not be as much of problem. Hopefully, it will suit me and the car better,” Solberg predicted.

Tyre wear plays a big role in Chile, which is why Solberg isn’t promising an all-out attack on Saturday.

“Because of the tyres, I can’t say for sure. But someone will definitely go fast,” Solberg said.

Rally Chile will feature six special stages on Saturday. The competition ends on Sunday.
