Despite this, the Estonian secured a good haul of points from the Croatian tarmac, ending up with 20 points.

It’s an impressive tally, especially considering that the overall winner, Toyota’s Sebastien Ogier, only added one more point to his total.

There has been much discussion about the absurdity of the recent changes to the World Rally Championship, and almost everyone has criticised them. Understandably, Tänak did not feel like rehashing the entire topic this time.

“Nothing new, it has been discussed many times,” Tänak briefly told RallyJournal.com.

When the topic changed, the Estonian had more to say. He did not fully trust his car throughout the weekend in Croatia.

“Tarmac is tricky. It’s hard to find a good, confident feeling,” Tänak explained.

The WRC is now moving to what is commonly referred to as the gravel season, so there won’t be any immediate concerns about tarmac. This shift might also ease Tänak’s situation, or perhaps not.

“Let’s see. I haven’t driven the car on gravel, just in Safari, but it is very unique and different. So, it’s always a bit tricky with a new team and new car, especially when you don’t really know what to expect,” Tänak anticipated.

Tänak is not among the front-runners in the championship right now, so he is likely to have a good starting position in the upcoming events.

“Let’s hope and try to benefit from that and, step by step, try to take some points back,” Tänak hoped.
