Tänak won the previous round of the World Rally Championship, Central European Rally, just under four weeks ago. Since then, the Estonian driver has been conducting more than the usual number of tests with Hyundai’s Rally1 car.

A week ago, Tänak tested the car in Spain ahead of the Rally La Nucia. Among Hyundai drivers, Thierry Neuville and Andreas Mikkelsen drove the Rally1 car in the competition itself, but Tänak took part solely in the tarmac rally test.

This week, Tänak has continued his work in Spain – this time on gravel in the province of Cordoba. Tänak put the car through a tough test day, to the point where the front bumper of the rally car occasionally couldn’t keep up with the pace.

In last weekend’s rally, Neuville and Mikkelsen were able to gain experience on tarmac before next week’s Rally Japan. Meanwhile, Hyundai was also testing new parts for the upcoming season.

Tänak’s test this week was solely related to the 2025 season, when Hyundai will compete with an updated car. For instance, the test vehicle did not have a hybrid unit, which will no longer be used in the main class of the World Rally Championship next season.

In addition to Tänak, Hyundai’s experienced Spanish driver Dani Sordo had his own test day following Tänak’s. Sordo will also take part in an event in the Spanish rally championship, the Rally Pozoblanco, this weekend with Hyundai’s Rally1 car in a test capacity.
