So far, the rally has been under the complete command of Toyota’s Kalle Rovanperä, but on Saturday’s final stage, Tänak finally achieved a significant success.
The Estonian ended Saturday on a high note, clocking the fastest time on the Sleeping Warrior monster stage.
However, Tänak’s race had already been compromised earlier, so motivation might have been an issue.
“We don’t really have a choice. We need to keep motivated,” Tänak stated.
“This is the Safari. It’s not surprising that things can happen,” the Estonian continued, referring to the nature of the rally.
Tänak is no longer competing for the overall win in the rally due to Friday’s retirement, but there are still a significant number of points available on Sunday.
“Tomorrow is a different day again, and it’s good to be back here at the service,” Tänak said.
“For sure we would like to try to score points tomorrow. That would be crucial. We tried quite hard now as well, but still, we missed by second (of the ninth-placed Jourdan Serderidis),” Tänak told.
